A Note From the Editors

As always, this list comes with the strong caveat that we haven’t been able to see every single 2024 film. Oscar strategizing has continued to push major releases later and later into the year until many aren’t even available to the public until mid-January. This hurts films like last year’s sublime All Of Us Strangers which we weren’t able to see in time to include on the 2023 list but doesn’t quite belong here either. The splintered mediascape also makes it impossible for a small team, let alone a single person, to see every movie that is released in a year, especially the smaller, independent titles that aren’t available in wide release (we tried our best to include streaming titles regardless of theatrical status). For the subsequent failings of this by no means comprehensive list, we apologize. Even if we had been able to see everything, we don’t believe in quantifying “best” in any artistic medium so, with all that in mind, let’s celebrate the “outstanding” work of 2024 in feature films.
