Eminently danceable and ultimately intriguing, “Road Movie Star” is the new single from VEiiLA, the Russian electronica duo.
The song has a great spooky groove that swells from mild to a kind of haunting anthemic vibe at the chorus. The vocals show a good range from little girl vulnerable to strident and edgy for an expressive contemporary sound. There’s a nice sense of textural and rhythmic complexity that keeps it sonically intriguing.
Like their previous release, the EP Chrysalis, the lyric are introspective and set in our dystopian world.
I wish I were a road movie star
As if it’s no escape as if I’m just a spark
I wish I’d never felt a stagnancy
Living in the state of a constant emergency
VEiiLA is Vif Nüte and Bes Eired, based out of Saint-Petersburg, Russia. As their bio reads, “By means of synthesizers, samplers and sincere introvert-oriented lyrics the duo tried to find the way to escape from obnoxious reality of weird social environment to the wonderland of purity and open-mindedness.”
Formed in 2014, they bring a nice sense of sophistication to the world of edm/electronica, with enough sonic hooks to keep both your ears and your dancing shoes satisfied.
Road Movie Star is the first single off their forthcoming album.
